Norman Osborn is a super villain in the Universe toyline and continuity family
Norman Osborn is better known as the Green Goblin and the Iron Patriot. Osborn was always an aggresive man and a cruel father, but after being enhanced to become the Green Goblin he lost most his sanity and remaining morallity. As director of HAMMER, Osborn's brutality extended across the whole world and he changed his identity to the Iron Patriot. Norman's gone from Spider-Man's greatest foe to the arch-enemy of the world.
Norman was always a bad guy, but when he tested his own companies "Goblin Serum" all his rage and ambition came boiling to the surface, at the cost of his humanity. Taking the costumed identity of the Green Goblin, Norman decided to take over the criminal underworld of New York, leading him into direct conflict with Spider-Man. From that day on Norman developed a deep hatred of the Wall-Crawler. He also spawned a knock-off in the form of Roderick Kingsly- the Hobgoblin.
Around the time of the Super Human Civil War Norman Osborn was taken into S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Thunderbolts program and eventually became the group's leader. His time with the reformed villains didn't sate his hunger for revenge on Spider-Man, and his first official order to the group was to hunt down Spider-Man, kill him and store all his relatives in the Negative Zone for interrogation and extermination. While Tony Stark was the Director he ensured Osborn could not follow through on this, prompting Osborn to send the S.H.I.E.L.D. director a message urging him to hunt down Spidey in spite of their personal history and warned him if he didn't Osborn would ensure every mistake Stark made would haunt him for the rest of his life. Maria Hill also strove to keep Norman away from Spider-Man at all times.
Norman Osborn caused the disbanding of S.H.I.E.L.D. and recreated it as HAMMER (it's not a real accronym) and stole a suit of armor from Iron Man's armory which he customized to make himself the Iron Patriot. As the Patriot, Osborn managed to completley change public opinion- as far as peole are concerned the Iron Patriot was a true Super Hero and Spider-Man and Iron Man were criminals. He reformed the Avengers with himself as the leader as well as Spider-Man, Hawkeye, Sentry, Ares, Ms. Marvel and Wolverine. He commisioned teams to determine how to take down certain heroes, including Luke Cage and Thor (Universe 2009). He also began attending meetings in Latveria.
Eventually Norman's reign was stopped and the heroes defeated him, reforming S.H.I.E.L.D. and reforging friendships broken by the Civil War.
Green Goblin- Marvel Universe Wave 2Edit
Norman's first figure in the iconic Green Goblin costume with green chainmail, a purple unitard, gloves and boots, and a goblin mask with a long purple hat. Goblin includes a very small pumpkin bomb, a satchel and his goblin glider which his feet fit into fairly well. There is a small hole in his open hand where the Pumpkin Bomb's tab can be fit into allowing him to hold it, but it can break relativley easily. Green Goblin is articulated with a balljoint head, ab-crunch, ball-hinge shoulders, swivel biceps, hinged elbows, swivel wrists, balljoint hips, double-hinged knees and ball-hinge ankles. A common problem reported by the Goblin figures is that after leaving them standing they have a tendancy to fall over, and some figure's have trouble staying on their gliders. This figure had a later redeco in a Target two-pack with Spider-Man and a retool into the Hobgoblin in wave 4. Surprisingly, the Green Goblin from the 2010 Spider-Man toyline was entirely original.
Dive Bomber Green Goblin- Spider-Man (2010) Wave 1Edit
A 100% new Goblin inspired by the same Green Goblin costume as the Marvel Universe incarnation. This figure is more cartoonish, with a contorted face and brighter colors. This Green Goblin figure has a new Glider, a new Satchel and a new Pumpkin Bomb. Like all the figures in the Spider-Man (2010 Toyline) Goblin is under articulated in comparison to the rest of the Marvel Universe toyline. He has a balljoint head, ball-hinge shoulders, ball-hinge elbows, ball-hinge hips, swivel thighs and ball-hinge knees. The figure fixes the standing problem of the previous Goblin and is much more stable, though his glider is no longer as visualy interesting.
Iron Patriot- Marvel Universe Wave 9Edit
The Iron Patriot figure is based on the Iron Man armor stolen by Norman Osborn and given a star shaped arc reactor and painted like an American Flag. The figure is a redeco of the Wave 7 Extremis Iron Man with a new molded arc reactor glued to his chest. Like all HAMMER File figures, Patriot is extremley hard to find at normal stores. He comes with a repack of the Iron Man blast effect and a stand with his name on it. There is an even rarer variant featuring Iron Patriot with an alternate unmasked Norman Osborn head.
Spider-Man vs. Green Goblin- Marvel Universe Target Two-PacksEdit
This Green Goblin is a straight redeco of Marvel Universe Wave 2 Green Goblin, repainted in much more vibrant colors, most notabley a "Christmas Green" that covers the majority of the figure. Being a redeco he has the same points of articulation as the wave 2 figures- a balljoint head, ball-hinge shoulders, ball-hinge elbows, ball-hinge hips, swivel thighs and ball-hinge knees. Due to the metalic green many of his sculpted features are obscured with this figure. His glider, pumpkin bomb and satchel are all retained in this rendition. The Spider-Man he is packaged with is based on the basic Spider-Man body mold, but there is debate in the collecting community as to whether or not he has a new head sculpt. Spidey also reobtains his webbing blast effective.
- Norman's S.H.I.E.L.D. file number is currently unknown.
- Please keep in mind that his son Harry has been the Green Goblin too. Make sure the figure is Norman before adding it to this page.
