Groot, sometimes known as The Monster From Planet X, is a Flora Colossus and exile from the Planet X. In his arrogance, the young Groot attempted to conquer the planet Earth, ultimately failing, leading him down the path to join the Howling Commandos. Eventually, Groot left the team and was eventually captured by the Kree, who forced him to join in their expendable combat team sent to carry out suicide missions to weaken the Phalanx.
This team lead to Groot meeting the person who would become his lifelong best-friend- Rocket Raccoon, and was lead by Star-Lord, who was impressed enough by the Colossus' skills and rapport with Rocket that he sought Groot out to join him in his new combat team: The Guardians of the Galaxy.
Marvel Legends: Guardians of the Galaxy 5-Pack (2015)Edit
Groot's first Marvel Legends release is based on the appearance the Flora Colossus took on during the much maligned Bendis run on Guardians of the Galaxy, losing his uniform. He was released in a boxset alongside Star-Lord, Rocket Raccoon, Gamora, and Drax the Destroyer. Groot is a remold of the Groot build-a-figure from the Guardians of the Galaxy movie series, featuring a new headsculpt based on the more monstrous comic book appearance, and repainted in a much darker shade of brown.
An additional miniature Groot is included in the pack as well; a repaint of the potted baby Groot created for the Marvel Universe Guardians of the Galaxy 3-pack, which was itself repacked with the single release for the Marvel Infinite Series Rocket Raccoon.
The set was ultimately released as an exclusive at the online retailer Entertainment Earth, and was also made available on their Amazon store page.
3 3/4" ScaleEdit
Marvel Universe: Guardians of the Galaxy Team Pack (2011)Edit
Groot's first ever action figure was released in the first mass market wave of Marvel Universe 3-Packs, alongside his fellow Guardians of the Galaxy team members Star-Lord, Drax the Destroyer, and Rocket Raccoon. Groot is techincally not a full-fledged figure, but is instead an unarticulated miniature figure depicting "Baby Groot" regrowing in a pot after his apparent death in Annihilation: Conquest.
Marvel Infinite Series: Rocket Raccoon (2014) Edit
Despite their small size, and lack of articulation, Groot was included as an accessory to the single release of Rocket Raccoon that was created when the figures from the Guardians of the Galaxy Team Pack were divided out into single releases to pad out a wave of rereleases for the Marvel Infinite Series line. This Groot figure was completely unchanged from his previous release, as was Rocket, who retained his custom rifle.
